This project involved the conversion of The Mount School into a School for international students aged between 13 and 16 as part of the Mill Hill School Foundation in Barnet, London.
The school provides a traditional British educational experience and an academic curriculum up to GCSE/IGCSE with specialist English teaching. After between one and three years at the School, the students are equipped to enter mainstream education at Mill Hill School, or other schools in the UK, to continue their studies.
The Mount site had, until July 2014, housed an independent day school for girls aged 4-18 within a range of buildings, two of which are grade II listed. Recent lack of maintenance together with slightly different curriculum needs necessitated a refurbishment to the existing buildings alongside some minor re-modelling works. The central external spaces have been transformed into a new landscaped courtyard to unify the disparate buildings and act as a focus for the whole site. The School can now operate in high quality learning and teaching spaces while the character and integrity of the existing buildings has been retained.
"The team at RSS has done a sterling job in preserving the integrity of our Grade II listed 19th century building whilst at the same time lifting the rooms within, creating an elegant yet functional space for teachers and pupils."
