St Mary’s University – New Sporting Facilities

Sport is a key element in the academic and social structure of St Mary’s. This project provides a total of 1,950sqm new and 2,000sqm of remodelled accommodation in order to consolidate and enhance the University’s standing as a High Performance Athletics Centre and a 2012 Olympic Games training camp.

The new single storey building consists of a sports hall and a linear block containing changing rooms and a strength and conditioning suite wrapping around it.

This is topped by a sinuous wavy aluminium roof which opens up to address the main pedestrian spine route through the campus. The building sits within a new open parkland landscape which frames views through the site.

The building is an exemplary low energy and sustainable development with an Excellent breeam rating and renewable energies such as a ground source heat pump, photo-voltaics and solar thermal systems.

"Thank you and well done for a stunning building."
