St Mary’s University – New Sporting Facilities

Sport is a key element in the academic and social structure of St Mary’s. This project provides 1,950sqm new and 2,000sqm of remodelled accommodation in order to consolidate and enhance the University’s standing as a High Performance Athletics Centre. The new single storey building consists of a sports hall, changing rooms and a strength and conditioning suite and sits within a new open parkland landscape, helping to frame views through the site. It is clad in Marley Eternit Equitone Natura tiles and has a sinuous, wavy, aluminium roof that opens up to address the main pedestrian route through the campus. It is an exemplary low energy and sustainable development with an Excellent BREEAM rating and renewable energies such as a ground source heat pump, photo-voltaics and solar thermal systems.

"Thank you and well done for a stunning building."
