This project is for the City Ventures team at City, University of London, in partnership with the London Borough of Islington.
It comprises the fit-out of space within the ground and lower ground floor of the Ray Building in Farringdon and provides flexible and affordable work space for local start-ups and growing companies.
A flexible co-working environment has been created by providing 75 desks spaces across the two floors, alongside a mix of breakout spaces. Pods have been inserted at ground floor incorporating private meeting rooms, a coffee bar, touchdown area, and a resources nook.
The design uses industrial style materials with the pods clad in coloured corrugated metal, with glazed screens creating a bold statement at the heart of the office environment. The adjacent reception point mirrors the industrial aesthetic of the pods. Furniture colours also enliven the neutral backdrop of partitions and exposed concrete soffit and M&E services.
Rivington Street Studio also advised on furniture selections to ensure a coherent aesthetic whilst providing maximum flexibility for agile working in the co-working environment. A large shared space at lower ground floor utilises furniture to transform from a relaxed break out environment during the day to a 50-capacity event space in the evening.
