8-12 White Church Lane

Set within the historic urban fabric of the Whitechapel High Street Conservation Area, this retrofit project provides 967m2 of retail, serviced office and co-working space arranged over five floors. The brief is targeted at supporting start-ups, micro-businesses and SME’s.

Reflecting the 19th Century small scale industrial and crafts use of the two retained buildings, the proposal wraps a new corrugated metal façade around the vacant site at no.12 and projects as a new stepped and terraced form toward Altab Ali Park at its rear. The three deep, thin plots and side alleyways are typical of the local area. At ground level, existing shopfronts are repaired and glazed bricks used to provide a robust finish to the public realm.

The floor plates will provide good daylight and are designed for flexibility and adaptability. The building is suitable for occupation by a single tenant or for multi-tenancy lettings with shared access.
