A current project set within the Whitechapel High Street Conservation Area providing 800m2 of serviced office, co-working and retail space arranged over five floors. The brief is targeted at supporting start-ups, micro-businesses and SME’s.
The design’s dominant feature is the principle brick volume, which establishes a shoulder responsive to parapet heights of surrounding buildings. A lightweight rooftop pavilion above this is set back, extensively glazed and detailed with a crisp-edged floating roof plane in folded metal, contrasting with the weighty masonry treatment below.
The floor plates are open plan with good daylight penetration and natural cross ventilation. They are designed for flexibility and adaptability. The building is suitable for occupation by a single tenant or for multi-tenancy lettings with shared access.
